AIDS FOR CHOKING

 Aids for choking ( HEMLISCH MANEAVER ):- 

Introduction :- 

There is a specific name for this procedure it is called HEMLISCH MANEAVER , this is aprocedure used to remove the stucked stuff or food particles and etccc.... in the throat by using the residual volume of lungs .

Definition :- 

This is a process in which the pressure is applied in the thoracic region , which causes expelsion of the stucked particle from the throat by using the residual volume of the lungs .

NOTE : residual volume is the volume of air left over in the lungs after maximum expiration .

Steps of hemlisch maneaver :-

• First ask the person if they can cough very hard in order to remove the stucked particle . If he is able to bring out the stucked stuff then no need to do the hemlisch maneaver .
• We should make a fist around his umbilical region just above the naval area and below the ribs .We should be carful not to damage the ribs in the process .
• Then after making the fist put force in that region to increase the intrathoracic pressure causing forceful expulsion of the foriegn particle from the throat by using the residual air left over in the lungs .
• We should do a round of 6 - 10 pressings in this region .
