ACROMEGALY
Acromegaly :-
Definition :-
This is a condition which happens because of growth of bones after fusion of metaphysis , this usually happens in adults .
Causes :-
- Increase in growth hormones .
- Increase in release of ghrh ( growth hormone releasing hormone ) .
- Tumour on the pituitary gland causing over secreation of gh hormone ( growth hormone ) .
Symptoms / Characteristics :-
- Abnormal increase in size and girth of the periphries of the persons body .
- Hirutism ( Increased facial hair )
- Gynacomastia
- Increased broadness of the jaw
- Deepening of voice
- Some defects in eye related to colour
- Osteoporosis
- Course and thicker hair
- Oily and thick skin
- Increased sweatyness and body odour
- Noticable symptoms is problem in walking
- Protrusion of the jaw
Diagnosis :-
- This condition can be diagnosed by checking the gh levels in the blood .
Treatment :-
- Acromegaly is caused due to over secreation of the gh , which is released in excess from pituitry gland , caused due to tumour on the pituitary .
- Radiation of the pituitary gland
- Mdeications
Prevention :-
- Actually there is no such prevention identifies however , if we try to prevent acromegaly before it happens then it may cause any other abnormality or many complications can occur .
Complications :-
- There is a risk of heart disease which is caused due to ischemia .
- Even there are high risks of heart failure .
