VERRUCOUS HYPERPLASIA (Pre stage of malignant oral cancer)

 Verrucous Hyperplasia :- 

This is a type of disease which is a pre malignant stage of oral cancer - premalignant means it is a previous stage of maignancy (means spreading of the tumour from one place to another)

Causes :- 

The causes of verrucous hyperplasia are not correctly known . However , some main causes which can be listed are as follows :
  • Tobacco eating.
  • Ciggarete smoking .
  • Areca nut with lime is also considered to be one of the cause this disease.
  • The CAUSATIVE AGENT of veruccous hyperplasia --- Papillomavirus

Symptoms :- 

  • Initial symptoms include distinct white lesion on tongue or on the buccal mucosa.
  • The lesion is white with flat or grainy surface. 
  • However , in majority of cases there is no appearance of symptoms.
  • It can also appear in the floor of tongue
  • Appears in upper palate.
  • Appears on the lips in rare cases.

Treatment :- 

The treatments used for verrucous hyperplasia are :
  • Curettage
  • Electrodesication

  • Systemic chemotherapy

  • Carbon dioxide lazer
  • Imiquimod
  • Photodynamic therapy

  • Intra lesion interferon alpha
